Trudy joined Homes First as Chief Executive on November 1st, 2011, and began leading the organization into its third decade of creating safe, healthy, and affordable rental housing in Thurston County. Trudy came to Homes First from Community Youth Services where she served as Manager of Organizational Development. She has over 30 years experience working in nonprofits around the world. Trudy volunteers her time with many mission-driven organizations that include being a member of the Board for the Washington State Employee’s Credit Union and Washington Nonprofits. A 2008 graduate of Lead Thurston County, Trudy’s passion is for working with staff and leaders to grow nonprofits and plan for their future so that our community members can have better, healthier lives.
Courtney most recently worked at the WORK SOURCE center in Thurston County. She is also an adjunct professor with Centralia College teaching students in the BASM program “Foundations of Management 300” which prepares our future leaders by providing resources guiding them when exiting school.
In Courtney’s own words, “I care about people and their overall quality of life. To me, having a home that is affordable dramatically changes the lives in our community. When people have a quality of life it leads to a restoration of hope. Hope leads to an enhanced energy, and in my opinion, that energy goes back to our community.”
Courtney is also a graduate of the Masters in Public Administration Program from the Evergreen State College
Amy joined Homes First in 2009 to help support daily office operations. Since that time, she has gone from working 20 hours a week to being a full time Office Manager. She has seen many changes at the organization and helps ensure that the daily care of our tenants and our finances stay on track. When she isn’t at work, Amy a loving mother and avid gardener. You will often see her bicycle parked in front of our office when it isn’t pouring down rain.
Marge joined our team in January 2015 after many years of working with nonprofits in Thurston County. As a previous executive director at ReBuilding Together of Thurston County, Marge has extensive experience managing volunteers on job sites and also manages our current volunteer program.
Marge has been a fundraising and event planner extraordinaire for the Dispute Resolution Center and the Olympia Tumwater Foundation.
Ron celebrated his 11th Anniversary with Homes First on April 04, 2014. Ron is a stalwart at our organization supporting the maintenance of both our homes and our tenants. He doesn’t hesitate to enter crawlspaces or climb ladders when the day calls for it. Ron is active in a local youth football league and is a doting uncle to his niece. Homes First is lucky to have his dedication to excellence for so many years.
Leah joined Homes First in February 2017, in a new position of Tenant Navigator. Her job is to work with our current and incoming tenants to navigate the many systems in our community; systems that they need to be successful tenants. Leah comes to us with a background in both professional property management in the private market and experience working for a service provider for adults with developmental disabilities. We are so glad to have her added to our amazing family and look forward to the systems she will help us develop to improve the lives of our tenants.
Felly is the latest member of the Homes First staff but has worked with us since 2013 as a contractor. Felly is also a former tenants A leader in his faith community and in the Oxford House International program, he has many years of maintenance and remodeling skills learned alongside his father, who is a professional builder. We are happy to have Felly on our team.
Coming to us directly from the YouthBuild program in 2015, Shayanne has been an amazing addition to our team. Having learned the basic skills she needed during her time at YouthBuild, she has put them to good use and has been a fast learner. She can wire a plug, lay flooring, replace a toilet, and so much more. We are so glad to support her dreams of becoming an architect and teaching her the skills she needs for her future…all while getting paid to work for Homes First and make our community a better place to live.
