If you are the parent of a child with special needs, you need to educate yourself about the many options available. It is never too early to start planning for your child’s future.

How can you ensure that your child has an affordable home while also receiving appropriate therapies and medical treatments? How can you find an appropriate home and ensure they can afford caregivers who will carry out your wishes AND respect your child’s goals, dreams and life expectations?

One way we suggest is that you consider donating your home to Homes First.  We will work with you and your attorney to create a legal agreement to ensure your child has a forever home.  We will also work with you to find a caregiver who will work with us to provide in-home care as well as potentially finding house mates in order to reduce your child’s overall cost of living.

Homes First currently (2017) has 12 shared homes for adults with developmental disabilities and works with five different service providers to ensure our tenants have the safe, healthy, and affordable FOREVER homes they need.

A great resource for finding more information on the general concept of donating your home to Homes First to ensure a longterm benefit to your child can be found here:  Special Needs:  Planning.
